Improve your ski touring skill and safety techniques in the magical Lyngen Alps

Trip Description

This week, based on the Island city of Tromsø in Northern Norway, has been designed for us by our guide Jimmy Halvardsson who lives in Tromso. The geographical location of Tromsø, some 350 km north of the Arctic Circle means that Tromsø has both midnight sun and fantastic snow conditions.

Introduce this fabulous ski area to you the first part of the week will be spent exploring the mountains surrounding Tromsø. You will then go deep into the Lyngen Alps to find more challenging terrain.

The scenery will take your breath away. Steep couloirs, spectacular sea views, fantastic ridges and Alpine peaks, the variety is endless.

Outline Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Tromsø

Day 2 Focus on revising Ski touring techniques and avalanche knowledge on peaks like Mt. Ulstind (1100m) clost to Tromsø.

Day 3 Get the ferry over to the Lyngen Alps and ski Mt. Storgalten 1200m.

Day 4 Ski touring in Southern parts of Lyngen, Mt Holmbukttind (1666m) will be one of the weeks highest points surrounded by glaciers and deep fjords.

Day 5 Mt. Nordfjellet 1000m.On the Island of Ringvassöy this peak offers great views and varied terrain.

Day 6 Ski touring on the Island of Kvalöya, Mt. Storstolpan (1000m) will be one of the week’s highlights.

After the final ski tour on Friday we get a good shower and après ski somewhere before its time to have a nice dinner together in some of the restaurants in town.

Day 7 Depart Tromsø

*This is only a rough schedule over what could happen during your stay. The possibilities are endless and the peaks climbed will vary often depending on conditions.
