Intermediate Alpine Mountaineering

The aim of this course is to improve your existing mountaineering skills, focusing on safety, efficiency and independence in the mountains. Skills include; faster rope work, quicker movement on alpine terrain and navigation.

Day 1 – Arrive in the Chamonix Valley. You will have a brief meeting with your guide and run through the mountain conditions and the plan for the week is.

Day 2 – Today will be spent revising rope-work and introducing more complex scenarios and techniques. This is an important day for getting back into multi-pitch climbing and setting a good base for the week. We will be valley based today.

Day 3 –We will put what we leant into practice in the Les Chesery climbing area, a great multi pitch climbing venue.

Day 4 – Today we will head up the Aiguille du Midi to climb the famous Cosmiques Arete, this is a classic mixed route. Lots of roped up moving together and climbing rock and ice with crampons.

Day 5 – We head back to the Aiguille Rouge and climb either the L’Index or Chapelle de la Gleire, both classic high mountain rock routes.

Day 6 – We get the Grand Montets cable car and climb the Petit Aiguille Vert, then we traverse the valley to spend the night in the Argentiere Refuge.

Day 7 – Alpine start on our last day, and we will climb the Aiguille d’Argentiere and return to the valley.

Day 8Depart – Back to Geneva and home.

We run these courses with a maximum of 2 participants per guide, this allows us to do more technical routes.

Level of experience required: Previous rock climbing and some alpine experience necessary, you will also need a good level of fitness.
