4x4 Wolf Route

What better way to discover rewilding than by living it directly?

The Iberian Wolf is an extremely important animal in the ecosystem, but its territory is currently restricted to the northern area of the Douro River. At the moment, the efforts of the competent authorities are aimed at bringing the species back more and more to the south of the Douro, where it lived until the middle of the 20th century. This route starts in the village of Vale da Senhora da Póvoa - called Vale de Lobo (Wolf Valley) until 1957 - towards Sortelha, where we interpret the most preserved Historical Village of all, and culminates in Penalobo (Wolf Rock), on a panoramic swing considered one of the most beautiful in the country. #Please Note: The Route may undergo major changes during Summer due to the Fire Hazard.

How your experience helps rewilding efforts

This experience supports rewilding by raising environmental awareness and introducing participants to the local landscape and the work of organizations like Rewilding Portugal. By creating space for reflection and feedback (both anonymous and signed) we gather valuable voices that help advocate for keeping this area wild. This collective input strengthens the case against developments such as new wind farms that could threaten the ecological integrity of the region.
