Casaguapa Alto Tajo - House 1

What better way to discover rewilding than by living it directly?

Casaguapa Alto Tajo is located in Armallones, within Alto Tajo Natural Park, where the road ends and the territory opens up.

The project began with two ruined houses that were close to disappearing. It was necessary to clear the plots completely and start again. Rather than building one large house, we chose to create two independent homes, integrated into the village and designed to welcome couples, small families, or small groups, while allowing different stays to coexist with their own sense of privacy.

This house is arranged over two floors and opens onto a private interior patio, discreet from the street. Behind a simple door, an unexpected and sheltered space appears — ideal for outdoor breakfasts, unhurried meals, or long summer evenings. It includes a barbecue and becomes a natural extension of daily life in the house.

The interior is simple and warm, with a predominance of wood, natural fibers, and a few reclaimed or handcrafted pieces that add character without drawing attention to themselves. The intention was not to create something striking, but something truly livable.

Casaguapa was also conceived as a way of experiencing this place from within — not just visiting for a few days, but sensing what it means to live here: the silence, the proximity to nature, and a more essential rhythm. Sometimes those who come return. That possibility is part of the spirit of the project.

How your stay helps rewilding efforts

Casaguapa is part of a territory that is gradually recovering its ecological balance and rural identity. The project was developed on former ruined plots, avoiding unnecessary expansion and choosing instead to integrate naturally into the fabric of the village. We apply low-impact criteria in the management of resources and encourage longer, more conscious stays that allow for a deeper relationship with the surrounding environment. We collaborate with local producers, small businesses, and people who act as guardians of the territory, contributing to the rural economy and to the continuity of life in the village. We believe that rewilding is not only an ecological process, but also a cultural and human one: supporting permanence, care, and respectful presence in places where nature still plays a central role.

Iberian Highlands | Spain

The removal of dams and artificial barriers is restoring the natural flow of rivers and streams across the Iberian Highlands. This is revitalising aquatic ecosystems, allowing fish and other freshwater species to move freely and regain their abundance.
