Explore the wild and little-known Byala River region on a full-day off-road adventure through one of the most authentic parts of the Eastern Rhodopes.
Starting in Mandritsa, Bulgaria’s only Albanian village, the journey follows scenic dirt roads through remote landscapes and historic settlements. Along the way, you’ll visit Gorno and Dolno Lukovo, where traditional stone houses and one of the oldest churches in the region reveal the area’s rich heritage.
The route continues through the abandoned village of Kostilkovo, where wild Karakachan horses may be spotted, and Plevun, known for its local specialties. You’ll also explore the impressive Lyutitsa Fortress and the ancient Villa Armira, one of Bulgaria’s most significant Roman sites.
The day ends at the meeting point of the Byala and Luda rivers near Belopolyane, a peaceful natural highlight before returning to Mandritsa.
